For Nanogate AG, corporate social responsibility is a crucial part of running a business. Please read on to find out about projects which Nanogate is actively involved in or currently supporting and sponsoring.

NANOSAFE
NANOSAFE is an EU-sponsored project to assess the consequences of producing and using nanoparticles for consumer and industrial goods. NANOSAFE evaluates aspects concerning health and safety for workers and consumers and discusses preventative measures and recommendations for implementation. The project was initiated by Nanogate AG and involves nine companies from the fields of trade and industry.

forumnano
The lobbying group forumnano was devised to represent and express the interests of leading medium-sized nanotechnology firms in communications with the public and the political arena. It is dedicated to the issue of sustainability and also informs the general public about the opportunities and potential presented by nanotechnology. One example of an important step in this process is the introduction of a quality mark for nanoproducts. forumnano was initiated by Nanogate AG in conjunction with NanoSolutions and other companies.

Saarland Empowering Nano
The Saarland initiative to promote the region as a business centre supports nanotechnology in the Saarland area of Germany via cooperative marketing, trade show appearances and events. Nanogate AG was amongst the initiators of the drive, which champions and consolidates Saarland’s leading position as a key nanotechnology centre in Germany.

NanoDialog
A government initiative to promote public dialogue concerning nanotechnology, NanoDialog was launched in September 2006 and concentrates on nanomaterials and nanoparticles. The initiative aims to discuss both the opportunities and the possible risks to health and the environment. It is initially set to run for two years. Along with the Nanocommission – of which Nanogate is a member – working groups consisting of experts from all concerned parties are to present results and recommendations for the government regarding the future development of nanotechnology by the end of 2008.

Right to Play
Right To Play is an international humanitarian organisation run by athletes. The charity uses sport and games to make lasting improvements to the quality of life of children and young people in disadvantaged parts of the world. Right To Play thereby helps to make the world healthier, safer and more peaceful. Nanogate AG believes in this philosophy and, along with its associated company Holmenkol, supports Right To Play.

Land of Ideas
As part of the “Germany – Land of Ideas” competition initiated by the German President Horst Köhler, 365 places were chosen once again for 2007 and each has one day to present its ideas and innovations to the public. As a visionary company in a country which supports innovators, Nanogate AG is one of these places. It is presenting itself by means of tours, talks and a nanolab where visitors can gain hands-on experience.


Responsible partners – companies for the region
The Bertelsmann Stiftung has set itself the task of highlighting the social activities undertaken by medium-sized companies. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility project, the foundation has launched the initiative “Responsible partners – companies for the region”. As one of 18 ambassadors for the Saarland, Nanogate AG is helping the Bertelsmann Stiftung to identify initiatives and new prospects.

Life Science
As part of a project sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), Nanogate AG is contributing towards developing future forms of therapy for diabetes along with the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering and other clinical partners.

Environmental management
In January 2007, Nanogate became the first nanotech company in Germany to be certified in line with ISO 14001:2004 for environmental management. Nanogate’s environmental management includes projects such as testing raw materials it plans to use and their effect on the environment.

The company is also involved in developing an innovation strategy for Saarland.
